1. Notebook Computer Charging Cabinet Update

ITU is pleased to announce notebook computer charging cabinet for HHB campus is completed on 12 Dec. Students are welcome to access the service on 3/F, HHB.

Students are reminded to bring along their padlock when using this service.

2. Revised Opening Hours of IT Services during Semester Break

Please be informed that from 3 January to 15 January 2012, opening hours of IT Services will be revised as follows:

3. PC Maintenance in Student Computer Centre (SCC)

To perform regular maintenance and update of system applications,  zones in SCC will be closed partially during semester break and students are advised to follow staff's instruction in SCC for the arrangement.

4. Moodle - Upgrade to 2.x

Schedule
e-learning team is working on upgrade Moodle from version 1.9 to 2.x, it is expected to complete the upgrade exercise in Semester one 2012/13.  Tentative schedule is as follows:

Teaching staff can choose either version 1.9 or 2.2 during the pilot run period (ie 2nd semester and summer term of 2011/12).

Highlighted new features
•    Timed access control to course materials: Each course material can be configured to allow and/or block the access after a date. 
•    File organization: Physical files uploaded to a course are no longer stored in a centralized course file manager, instead they are associated to that course activity only.
•    Multiple file attachment on forum post: In news and announcements or a student discussion forum, each post allows attaching up to five files to a post.  Number of attachment limited can be configured for each of the activity.
•    Rubric grading: Rubric is an advanced assessment tool for communicating expectations of quality and it supports student self-reflection and self-assessment.  Rubric grading is supported in Moodle 2.2.  For more information, you may refer to a YouTube video at http://youtu.be/KXavtUhDINA (length ~4 mins 30 secs)

Experiencing Moodle 2.x
Teaching staff please send a request to ITU pfmoodle@cpce-polyu.edu.hk and state  subject codes to take part in the pilot run and experience the new features of Moodle 2.x. We will create an account in Moodle 2.x for you in three working days.

After setup account Moodle 2.x,  users can click a link to Moodle 2.2.  The following chart demonstrates the access flow:

5. eLearning New Feature : e-CV

ITU is pleased to announce a new feature e-CV on CPCE e-Learning Platform . It provides users with tools to create and maintain an e-portfolio of their learning, such tools as blogs, a CV builder, a file manager and a page creator.  With the aid of pages, users can arrange their contents and grant the access to designated users or to public.
 
Please note that, during the pilot period, i.e. from 1 January 2012 to 31 August 2012, each Moodle user has 40MB storage to upload file to their own e-CV accounts and can access to this feature within campus (Intranet) only.
 
To access to e-CV, please go to Moodle 1.9 (https://moodle.cpce-polyu.edu.hk) and click "e-CV" to single-sign-on to it.  This link will also be available from 1 January 2012.  For the use of the system, ITU will conduct trainings in February 2012, details will be announced in due course.

6. IT Training Workshops for Staff

To facilitate the use of Moodle and SharePoint, ITU will organize the following training sessions for staff, details are as follows:

- 12 January (Thu) 14:30 - 16:30 HHB campus
- 16 January (Mon) 19:00 - 21:00 HHB campus

- 11 January (Wed) 14:30 - 16:30 WK campus
