2. Tips for Using Microsoft Teams Meetings

  1. Apply background effects when joining a Teams meeting
In the meeting tools bar, click the three dots ‘…’ and click ‘Apply background effects’. You can select ‘Blur’ option, image library which provided by Microsoft or add your own favorite image.

  2. Get familiar with the mute button
If you are not speaking, it is good practice to switch your audio to mute. Your video window will display to other attendees every time you make a noise, so the noise can interfere with the flow of the meeting.

If you are the host of the meeting, you can mute other attendees in the show participants icon . The attendees can unmute themselves when they want to speak.

  3. Sharing content from your device
There are 4 ways to share content in a meeting. They are:
    1. Your entire desktop,
    2. A window,
    3. A PowerPoint file,
    4. A whiteboard.

Here’s a quick overview of each method:
To share your screen in a meeting, select the ‘Share screen’ button in your meeting controls. Then choose to present your entire desktop, a window, a PowerPoint file, or a whiteboard.

  4. Use the ‘Chat’ or ‘Raise Your Hand’ feature to avoid interrupting the meeting
Instead of interrupting someone to share resources and other information, use the chat or raise your hand feature.

As a host, select show participants icon to see who is raised their hand. When multiple people raise their hands, they will be listed in the order in which they raised them.

4. Turnitin New Feature

Turnitin introduces a new feature “Flag” that can detect the text manipulation in the assignment submission. There are some characters in different alphabets can look similar enough that to the naked eye. it is difficult, if not impossible, to tell them apart. With using these characters text manipulation, it was possible to pass plagiarized content off as genuine previously. But now with using Flag, this manipulatoin can be detected at Feedback Studio. In case there is flag warning at the submission, it is not necessarily an indicator of a problem. However, we would recommend you focus your attention there for further review.

Please check the below links for more details of Flags in Turnitin.

5. WIE E-submission Platform

We are pleased to inform you that the WIE e-submission Platform (https://e-wie.cpce-polyu.edu.hk) has been launched. The platform allows the students to fulfil the WIE requirement by completing several e-forms.

For students who are required for Work-Integrated Education (WIE), you need to submit a WIE Proposal Form (WIE01) to WIE Advisor through the Platform for approval before you start working. After required WIE hours are completed, please submit WIE02 (Log sheet), WIE03 (Reflective Learning Statement) and other supporting documents through the WIE Platform again. And for full-time year 1 SPEED students, you may apply for recognition of Prior Work Experience (PWE) for WIE if they have accumulated related work experience before admission into the programme enrolled at SPEED.

User manual can be found after login the WIE e-submission platform, as illustrated below.

Should you have any questions, please contact General Office (SPEED : speed@speed-polyu.edu.hk / HKCC: ccoffice@hkcc-polyu.edu.hk).
