1. Online Teaching Update - Block Downloading is Available for Video Files in OneDrive Sharing

Sharing Links that Block Download are now available for most video & audio files stored in OneDrive and SharePoint. When users share individual video and audio files, they have the ability to create sharing links that prevent recipients from downloading the file. Recipients can continue to view the files via the in-product playback experiences.

There is a Microsoft page on the topic for reference Block downloads for view-only files in SharePoint and OneDrive (microsoft.com)

2. Create Teams Meeting with Registration Link

Instead of sending out meeting invitations that contain a Join meeting link, MS teams now supports creating registration page like Zoom webinar. User can create a registration page like below for registration.

You may customize the registration page and define additional setting, e.g., presenters. There is a Microsoft page describing the feature at Schedule a Teams meeting with registration (microsoft.com)

3. Android Version Requirement on MS Outlook

Beginning May 23, 2022, Outlook for Android will no longer support Android 7.1 or below. If you are using Outlook for Android on phones running old versions of Android, you will not be able to update to new version of Outlook for Android. Please upgrade the operating system to Android 8.0 or above for new versions of Outlook.

4. Reminder on IT Security

Ransomware is among the most wide-spreading cyber security threats. Hackers are using it to encrypt files on the user's device and demand ransom payments for file decryption.

For the sake of reducing the risk of ransomware infection, the following precautionary security measures are recommended:

  1. Backup important files in a timely and regular manner. Keep an offline copy of the backups in a safe place to avoid being affected by malwares.
  2. Install end point security protection solutions (ie Anti-Virus Software) in your PCs.
  3. Update system and software, such as Microsoft Windows, Office, Adobe reader, Flash player, etc., with the latest security patch to plug the security loopholes and avoid being utilised by malwares.
  4. Be aware of suspicious emails. Do not open attachments inattentively, especially compressed files (zip), executable files (exe) or documents that contain the VB script. Report to ITU helpdesk ( itu.helpdesk@cpce-polyu.edu.hk) if you have received a suspected phishing email.

5. Reminder : Availability of NOD32 Anti-Virus Software to Staff

7. Tips on How to Check Similarity in MS Word
