1. Windows 8

User may note Windows 8 has been announced by Microsoft on 26 October. There are significant changes of Windows 8 when comparing to previous generations of Windows, including phase out of “start button” and adoption of “Metro” user interface, support of Windows Store and apps, enhancement on tablet support and offering of different version, like Windows RT, etc.

To better facilitate interested user to have a taste of this system, ITU is working on user materials on Windows 8 and carrying a series of system testing to ensure compatibility of system drivers and software in Windows 8. It is expected Windows 8 can be officially offered for staff notebook installation on Semester 2 and interested user please pay attention to the announcement in ITU newsletter.

User is welcome to contact ITU helpdesk should any questions over it.

2. Phasing out of Wi-Fi SSID : CPCE_Staff_M and CPCE_Student_M

In order to enhance Wi-Fi performance and security, Wi-Fi SSID : CPCE_Staff_M / CPCE_Student_M (Web authentication) is scheduled to be phased out by the end of Semester 1 ( To be removed after 31 January 2003). Should any staff and students still use these Wi-Fi SSID, please follow Wi-Fi setup instruction at the following link or contact our helpdesk at 3746-0818 /3746-0819 for assistance.

3. Notice for Trial Run of Wifi Printing Service

Information Technology Unit (ITU) is undertaking a Wi-Fi printing project and would like to invite 100 students to participate in a trial run of this service from 29 Nov to 12 Dec 2012 at Hung Hom Bay Campus. The objective of this trial run is to enable a small group of students to experience
Wi-Fi printing service then collect their feedback for service improvement.

If you are notebook user and interested in trying this new service, please register at IT Training System. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis with a limit of 100 students.

As a token of appreciation, student who participates in this trial run and complete a questionnaire will get ONE $25 Starbucks cash coupon.
