1. Single Sign On (SSO) and New Login Screen for Various Systems

As announced in ITU notices to staff and student previously, the 1st phase of Single Sign On (SSO) authentication service has been started on 8 August 2013. With the help of this service, user logs in once can gain access to all SSO enabled systems without being prompted to log in again at each of time.

Points to note

my.HKCC / my.SPEED: A new landing page will display as follows and please click either ‘HKCC’ or ‘SPEED’ icon to login. ‘User name’ and ‘Password’ is the same as you use to login your email account. All contents inside my.HKCC and my.SPEED are protected and required to authenticate before viewing.

Logout: For security reason, please be reminded to click ‘Logout SSO’ button in all ‘Logout PUsecure-SSO’ window(s) or click ‘Logout’ button in the application to close all connections after use. Please close all web browser windows and logoff computer before you leave.

Password Reset: Please reset the password in the CPCE portal (https://portal.cpce-polyu.edu.hk) for all SSO enabled applications.

Change Your Password (Student Only)
It is a gentle reminder that student has to change password every 13 months. If you haven’t password on last academic year, your password will expire very soon. Please enter CPCE Portal (https://portal.cpce-polyu.edu.hk) and enter “Change Password” function to change password. Student is reminded Single Sign On (SSO) has been used for CPCE portal login. New CPCE identity Management Portal is created for changing password. Screen shots of above system are attached for reference.

2. Enhancement Work in SCC

Enhancement work has been implemented in Student Computer Centre (SCC) which over 150 power sockets has been setup in HHB and WK SCC respectively. Apart from charging cabinets in open areas, this enhancement benefits mobile device users within SCC which provides more sockets for charging purpose and user is welcome to contact SCC helpdesk counter if any support needed.

3. IT Mega Sales 2013

IT Mega Sales 2013 has started. There are a wide range of IT products, including notebook, Tablet PC, mobile phone, accessories, like DVD burner, Wi-Fi router, monitor and even PC motherboard. For brand, CPCE members can enjoy discount offering from Acer, Asus, Apple, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft and Sony. Students and staff are welcome to visit IT Product Mega Sales inside CPCE Portal (http://portal.cpce-polyu.edu.hk) which contains up-to-date information of the event.

4. Update of PC and Monitor Upgrade Project This Summer

ITU is pleased to announce this phase of PC and Monitor Upgrade project is completed.

This phase of PC upgrade covers Language Labs, Express Printing areas and CPCE libraries in both campuses; Student Computer Centre(SCC) in HHB. While the monitor upgrade covers Teacher’s PC at classrooms, IT Lab, Language Lab and meeting room in HHB.

All Student PCs in SCC(HHB), Language Labs, Express Printing Areas and libraries are upgraded to ultra-small form factor in order to release table space with the latest CPU and Solid State Drive (SSD) support for system speed improvement

For reminder, resolution of Teacher PC has been set as 1366x768 with 125% font size after seeking user feedback. Comment on the arrangement is welcome and ITU will review the setting from time to time.

5. Mobile Version of Moodle E-learning System

The mobile version of CPCE Moodle has been launched since last year. When accessing the system (http://moodle.cpce-polyu.edu.hk) using an internet browser on your mobile devices such as iPhone, iPod Touch, Android phone and Windows phone, a mobile-device-friendly version of Moodle will be automatically displayed to fit screen resolution of the devices. Students can now be easily to access your course materials in your mobile devices.

For the other native mobile apps that can be downloaded from iTunes in iOS platform or Google Play in Android platform, all apps are currently not supported by this release of CPCE Moodle. ITU is currently working to enhance the system to support the official app (Moodle Mobile) developed by Moodle Pty Ltd. Details will be announce in January next year.

6. Major Upgrade of Moodle

In the past academic year, Moodle has performed servers upgrade to provide stable performance to end users.

The Moodle version also upgraded from 2.3 to 2.5 with lots of brand new features:

  • With Moodle Mail, users are now able to send emails with attachments. This feature replaces the message feature that existing users using in Moodle 1.9 and 2.3

  • Folders can be displayed inline on a course webpage

  • Activity completion allows students to mark specific activity / file with a check (tick) which appears against the activity

Moreover, CPCE Moodle is now supporting Single Side-on (SSO) authentication service. Users can now access various CPCE systems including CPCE Moodle by login once. For students, Live@edu dual-login method will no longer be supported. Users can access the Moodle user guides in CPCE Portal.
