1. ITU Accomplishment on Semester 1
With your unfailing support, ITU has completed a number of projects in semester 1, 2013/14. The following is a quick review of them grouped by five service areas namely, E-learning, Network, Server Administration, System Development and User Support:
E-learning Service
- Upgrade of five Moodle backend servers to double the performance of e-learning system
- Implementation of CPCE Single-sign-on Federation Service to support Moodle
- Upgrade of Moodle to version 2.5
- Introduction of new features such as Email-like feature, Flexible user interface design to maximize screen width
Network Service
- Enhancement of Network Infrastructure
- Implementation of 10GE network backbone in HHB and WK campus
- Upgrade of data port to support 1Gbps data connection
- Enhancement of Protection to Campus Network
- Implementation of Intrusion Prevention System (IPS)
- Upgrade of Firewalls System
- Replacement of Uninterrupted Power Supply
Server Administration Service
- Deployment of Federation authentication service between PolyU and CPCE to support student's single-sign-on service for CPCE Portal, e-Learning Moodle, my.HKCC / my.SPEED, Student Account Enquiry(SAE)
- Design and implementation of Disaster Recovery(DR) drill of HKCC and SPEED's Web Servers
- Migration and upgrade student email from Outlook based to Office 365, student's mailbox and Skydrive have been upgrade to 50GB and 25GB respectively. New features such as Sharepoint and Lync are available
- Enhancement of personal security by using the student no. to replace student name information in student email system
System Development Service
- Enhancement of Existing Systems
- Sport Facilities Booking Systems (SFBS)
- CPCE Identity Management Portal for Long Serving Retirees & Graduates
- Systems completed design phase and in User Acceptance Test(UAT) phase
- CPCE Research Output System
- Online Student Activities Questionnaire
- Systems completed UAT and in production phase
- Voting of Student Representatives
- Online survey with custom rules and validations
User Support Service
- Upgrade of over 500 PCs in HHB Campus to support i7 CPU and Solid-State-Disk(SSD) hard disk
- Upgrade PCs in WK Language Lab and Multi-purpose Lab
- Upgrade of HKCC Staff PC
- Upgrade of Audio Visual(AV) system in HHB campus
- Upgrade of Digital Display System (DDS) in both campuses
- Upgrade of teaching facilities to support mobile teaching in HHB campus
- Enhancement of Student Notebook Loan service with significant increase of notebook quantity

2. CPCE IT Mega Sales
The new round of mega sales is getting underway; Fujitsu is the notebook supplier for this round of mega sales. Interested student and staff are welcome to visit vendor's web site, http://www.uoffer.hk for offering details. There will be roadshow in HHB and WK early in Semester 2. Please refer to announcement from ITU and vendor for event update.

3. Display Name in Student Email Account
In order to tighten the data security measures of student email account (http://mail.office365.com), student's name (Display Name) created by the system is replaced by student number in the contact list (連絡人). This security enhancement will protect student name and student number by making them non-searchable in the contact list. Your personal contacts created in the contact list will not be affected.

4. Apple TV in Meeting Room (Staff Only)
Apple TV is setup in all meeting rooms in HHB and WK to facilitate wireless presentation using iPad / iPad Mini. To access the device, staff needs to,
- Change input to AppleTV in Video Switch
- Change iPad SSID to meeting room Access Point
- Connect Apple TV via AirPlay
- Turn On Mirroring to show screen of iPad to projector
A step-by-step user guide with device image is ready in meeting room for user's reference. User is welcome to contact ITU should any support needed for this service.

6. Staff Email Migration in 2014
Staff email will be migrated to Office 365 in early 2014. ITU is preparing the migration plan and will try to make the migration process transparent to the end user. ITU will keep updating the progress of this migration process.
