1. Tips and Training for Office 365 Email System (Staff only)
In view of the concern about the performance of Microsoft Office 365 system expressed by staff, ITU listed some scenarios and Microsoft's suggestions to them below for your reference.
When I use Office 365 in Office PC |
Scenarios 1 : I am using Office 365 OWA at office and found it is slow |
Suggestion : Please use Microsoft Outlook instead of Office 365 OWA which provides better performance with "Cached Exchange Mode" enabled. Please refer to "Outlook Configuration Guide" in CPCE Portal for setup method |
Scenarios 2 : I am using Microsoft Outlook at office and found Office 365 is slower than old email system |
Suggestion : It is recommended to turn on "Cached Exchange Mode" which is default setting of old email system. Please refer to "Outlook Configuration Guide" in CPCE Portal for setup method |
When I use Office 365 in my Home PC / Notebook |
Scenarios 3 : I am using Office 365 OWA at home and found it is slow |
Suggestion : More time is required by Office 365 to process in view of larger mailbox, as well as new features and user interface. User may consider to setup Office 365 on Microsoft Outlook which provides better performance. Please refer to "Outlook Configuration Guide" in CPCE Portal for setup method |
Scenarios 4 : There is unusual slow response of Office 365 OWA on Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) |
Suggestion : There is an known issue when using Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), default browser of Windows 7, with Office 365. User is recommended to use Google Chrome instead. |
Training session
To better facilitate colleagues making use of new features and update of Office 365, ITU has coordinated with Microsoft to organize two 1.5-hour training sessions for colleagues, one in HHB and one in WK campus. The training content is identical to these two sessions:
Session 1: 17 June 3:00PM - 4:30PM at HHB-201
Session 2: 25 June 3:00PM - 4:30PM at WK-S201
Colleagues can enrol the training via "IT Training Registration" under CPCE Portal. It is strongly recommended for colleagues who have difficult in using Office 365 to join the training session.

3. Work in Progress
It is another hot session for ITU. With effort of colleagues, ITU has scheduled the following new / enhancement works during summer time and some of them have begun already,
- Campus PC and monitor upgrade in West Kowloon Campus
- Campus AV upgrade in West Kowloon Campus
- AV enhancement in Hung Hom Bay Campus
- Improving Wi-Fi Access Point (AP) coverage
- Improving DDS coverage
- Revamp of student printer and facilities
- Campus Server Upgrade and Capacity enhancement
- Development of Mobile App for CPCE
- Enhancement for Mobile Teaching

4. Result Announcement: Lucky Draw Winners of "Survey on IT Services"
ITU has conducted "Survey on IT Services" for staff and students in March 2014. The response rate is better than the last year and users' feedbacks provide us a solid ground to improve our services continuously. To show our gratitude, students who completed the survey entered the lucky draw automatically.
Result of Luck Draw
The lucky winner who has won the grand prize of iPad Air (32GB Wi-Fi) and $20 7-Eleven gift voucher is Mr Ho Kwok Wing from HKCC. On top of this, the other 199 students have won themselves a $20 7-Eleven gift voucher.
Dr. Jason Chan, Head of Information Technology, presented the prize to the winner on 29 April 2014.

We also wish to take this opportunity to thank all participants for taking time to share valuable feedback and suggestions with us.
