1. Tips on Mobile Teaching: Opening File Archiving with 7-Zip (Staff Only)

It is noted that 7-Zip archive file is not supported in iPad by default. Users are required to use third-party app to open 7-Zip archive if necessary, namely iZip.

iZip is a free app (Ad-free version is also available for HKD$38) and it supports common archive file formats, including ZIP, RAR, 7Z, ZIPX, TAR, GZIP. Users may visit the following link to iTunes to check the details of iZip and contact ITU helpdesk at x0818 / x0819 or email to pfitoper@cpce-polyu.edu.hk for any enquiry.

2. Reminder on Rules and Regulations on Student Notebook Loan Service

In response to student enquiries, ITU would like to highlight some points in rules and regulations of student notebook loan service for user attention,

  1. Students are required to check the quantity and functionality of items when checking out. College reserves the right to charge students for any loss or damage due to misuse.
  2. For any physical damage case and / or overdue case for 3 weeks or above, the student’s borrowing right will be suspended for 1 semester and he / she is required to pay the repair / replacement cost in full.
  3. Students have to settle the outstanding payment (late return / physical damage penalty) before borrowing notebook.

Students are also advised to observe full version of rules and regulations on the service at http://www.cpce-polyu.edu.hk/itu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=42&Itemid=44

3. Secure Your Data on USB Flash Drive

It is a regular reminder about securing your data in USB flash drive, especially in project session which contains important data like project and term paper. In order to prevent the data lost due to USB flash drive failure or losing, students are strongly advised to

  • Back up your files from USB thumb drive to other location, e.g. home PC
  • Use USB thumb drive on PC only with updated Anti-Virus software installed
  • Enable password protection software on USB thumb drive, if available

Another approach is to make use of online storage, e.g. if you have CPCE's student /staff email account, you can use Microsoft OneDrive, which is bundled with your account and provides 1TB of storage. Users are welcome to approach ITU helpdesk at x0818 / x0819 or email to pfitoper@cpce-polyu.edu.hk for any enquiry on this topic.
