1. Update on IP Phone Password Rules

As informed by Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited (HKBN), the IP Phone service provider, current password policy for voicemail system has been upgraded in late May 2016 in order to enhance the security the Voicemail system, please note the following requirements when resetting your password for voicemail:

Rule of setting new voicemail password:

  • Must be 6 to 8 digits;
  • Must not contain more than 2 pairs of repeating digits
    (e.g. 112233);
  • Must not contain 3 or more repeating digits
    (e.g. 111222, 333345);
  • Must not using be the your extension or phone number (including reverse order); and
  • Cannot re-use the previous password.

Current password will be still valid until you change your password. The new password should comply with the rules above or you will hear "The passcode is not valid, please enter the new passcode". Please choose another password until it is acceptable to the system.

2. Energy Saving Measures During Summer and Term Break

Same as last year, in view of the low utilization of computing facilities, ITU would adopt the PolyU's Campus Sustainability Policies and Guidelines and implement the following measures for environmental protection and energy saving purposes during summer and term break in the campuses:

Express Printing Area

Nearly 80% of PCs in Express Printing Area are turned off while students can use the rest of PCs to access to campus network and submit print job.

Student Computer Centre

For Student Computer Centres, a dedicated zone is closed for energy saving purpose. Student may refer the following map for closed area.

3. Renovation Work in Express Printing Areas on S1/F, N7/F and S9/F in WK Campus

To facilitate setting up of new cabinets in Express Printing Areas in WK campus, PCs in the area are removed temporarily. User may make use of other PCs in Student Computer Centres (SCCs) for computing purpose.

The renovation work will be done by late August 2016 and we expect the PCs will be reinstalled the area by new academic year.
