1. Windows 10 and Office 2016 Upgrade

Following the announcement by Microsoft in 2017, Windows 10 is the only Windows version that is supported on the Intel seventh (7th) and later on generation processors, PCs come with new processor generations require the latest Windows version for support. In view of this, ITU plans to upgrade operating system and Microsoft Office of campus PCs according to their processor generations, details are as follows:

PCs in Group B above will be upgraded to Windows 10 and Office 2016 following PC hardware upgrade exercise in the summer of 2018. While PCs in Group A will maintain Windows 7 as no hardware upgrade on Summer 2018, Office version will be upgraded to 2016 to meet student demand on updated office software. Tentative schedule to upgrade Windows OS on Group A PC to Windows 10 in summer of 2019.


There is Windows 10 and Office 2016 user guide available in CPCE Portal for user reference of new software. Besides, there are PC installed with Windows 10 and Office 2016 available in Executive Training Room, Student Computer Centre of WK campus which user can visit for experience.


Staff Office PC


For staff office PC, Windows 10 and Office 2016 will be deployed during PC upgrade exercise. Colleagues may contact unit administrator about PC upgrade schedule of individual staff.


2. Voluntary Upgrade of Microsoft Office in Staff PC

Following campus PC software upgrade plan, staff, e.g., academic who teaches Microsoft Office, may contact ITU colleagues serving your unit for upgrading Microsoft Office to Office 2016. Self-served upgrade is not recommended to minimize the risk of possible crash of software and losing valuable data, e.g., Outlook archive.

3. Mobile Teaching Tips : Changing Video Recording Resolution in iPad

There is a tip that user can change video recording resolution via "Settings" -> "Camera"-> "Record Video". Depending on the need, iPad Pro supports up to 4K at 30fps (frame per second) and consumes 350MB storage per minute. Lower resolution, e.g. 1080p at 30fps, would save more space for longer recording. There is a list of recording space for user reference.

4. Reminder : Notes to Students Who Will Graduate or Leave From HKCC / SPEED (Students Only)

Please note that the following IT services will be terminated after you graduate or leave from HKCC / SPEED.


  • Student email account
  • Microsoft OneDrive bundled with student email account
  • Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus applications (Microsoft Office / Mac Office) offered via student email account
  • Print quota account
  • Student Notebook Loan Service
  • Campus Wi-Fi service, including Eduroam
  • Moodle
  • Campus PC / my.HKCC / my.SPEED / other systems login
  • Access to Student Computer Centre

Reminder:

  • Backup data / files from the above systems if you need to keep them before graduation in order to prevent inconvenience and / or data loss.
  • Remaining balance in print quota account is non-refundable and non-transferrable at any time.
  • Settle any outstanding payments such as student notebook penalty before you graduate
  • You may consider purchasing the Microsoft products at http://www.microsoftstore.com.hk if you wish to continue using them after leaving HKCC / SPEED.
  • Review and change your email address registered for external services if you use student email account commonly for registration.
