1. Deployment of Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) Solution on Staff Email Service (Staff Only)


In view of the growth of email attacks, ITU is pleased to announce that an Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) solution on the staff email service was launched on Dec 2018. This solution protects CPCE staff email system against various attacks including virus, ransomware and malware.


Which areas will be enhanced after implementation of the email ATP?

  • Anti-virus and Anti-spam

  • Ransomware and malware protection

  • Malicious URL detection

  • Spear phishing detectio

  • Email address and executive staff spoofing protection

What action will be taken when vulnerabilities detected on the email?

  • Positively identified email with malware or virus in the attachment will be removed.

  • Email is suspected with malware in the attachment, suspected spear phishing or spoofing email or with malicious URL link will be appended a warning message tag in the message content or email subject.

For the actions will be taken on the email under the protection of ATP, please access CPCE Portal and click the 'Advanced Threat Protection Solution' to understand the details of the solution. Besides, there are some points to note after deployment of the solution:

  • Please check your Junk E-mail folder regularly since false positive case may occur at the beginning of deployment.

  • Although the protection on the email is enhanced, users still require to take precaution on the attacks via the email.

2. Phishing Spam Email Demanding Bitcoin

Recently, users reported that they received an email which demanding bitcoin or other crypto currency payment to prevent from compromising information, such as the sites that you regularly visit, adult content or video which you had browsed, being sent to all your friends, family and co-workers

This is a type of online phishing that is targeting people around the world and preying off digital-age fears.

The senders of the emails, some hackers claim to have comprised your PC or laptop using malware and say they collected video from webcam of embarrassing situations, usually related to porn. The emails are slightly different depending on who's being attacked, but they all have a few similar features:

  • They begin the emails showing you a password you once used or currently use.

  • The subject line includes a password that you probably have used at some point.

  • The sender says they have used that password to hack your computer, install malware, and record video of you through your webcam.

How did they get my password?


In the modern age, data breaches are common and massive sets of passwords make their way to the criminal corners of the Internet.


What should I do?

  • DO NOT pay the ransom.

  • If the password emailed to you is one that you still use, in any context whatsoever, STOP USING IT and change it NOW!

  • Change the password regularly and use a complex password.

3. New PC Setup in Language Lab

ITU is pleased to announce that the PC upgrade exercise for HHB and WK Language laboratory is completed. Updated software packages including Windows 10 and Office 2016 are ready to use in these laboratories.

Upgrade of teacher PCs in language lab is expected to be carried on Summer 2019.


4. Reminder: Note to Students Who Will Graduate or Leave From HKCC / SPEED

Please note that the following IT services will be terminated after you graduate or leave from HKCC / SPEED:

  • Student email account

  • Microsoft OneDrive bundled with student email account

  • Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus applications (Microsoft Office / Mac Office) offered via student email account

  • Print quota account

  • Student Notebook Loan Service

  • Campus Wi-Fi service, including Eduroam

  • Moodle

  • Campus PC / my.HKCC / my.SPEED / other systems login

  • Access to Student Computer Centre


Reminder:

  • Please backup data/files from the above systems if you need to keep them before graduation in order to prevent inconvenience and /or data loss.

  • Remaining balance in print quota account is non-refundable and non-transferrable at any time.

  • Should you have outstanding debit note for student notebook payment, you must settle it before graduation.

  • You may consider purchasing the Microsoft products at Microsoft Store if you wish to continue using them after leaving HKCC / SPEED.

  • You are also recommended to observe email announcement from PolyU Alumni Affairs and Development Office about the provision of lifelong PolyU alumni email account and OneDrive online storage.
